There are compelling arguments on both sides of this issue. Standardized tests have a role in holding schools and districts accountable, as well as offering early insights into students' needs, allowing for proactive interventions. However, relying solely on a single test to determine a student's academic future is flawed, as it overlooks the complexity of individuals. A more comprehensive approach, including performance-based assessments (such as portfolios, internships, and capstone experiences), standardized tests, and grade point averages, would allow for a more holistic evaluation of students while ensuring equity, accountability, and early intervention.
