BV Youth Leadership Academy

The Foundation’s Youth Leadership Academy is officially underway! The Leadership Academy students met at Riverbend Farm in Uxbridge for the annual kickoff event. Students got to know each other exploring topics such as birthdays (three students had their birthdays the following day!), favorite foods, and fun facts about their districts.

The students began work on developing teamwork skills in two ways: an interactive Workshop: Paper Airplane Contest, and a Community Self-Reflection exercise wherein they identified what they expect of themselves and each other this year. Common themes included “respecting each other”, “pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone”, and “helping each other as much as we can”.

On Tuesday, November 29th, BVYLA students had a blast at UniBank in Whitinsville!

UniBank employees taught the students all about financial literacy and budgeting skills. They learned what a credit score is, why it’s important to start budgeting early, and how “it’s not how much money you make, it’s about how much money you keep”. Students engaged in a guessing game to see if they can guess how much it costs to buy a car, pay for a year of college, and buy a house.

BVYLA students are looking forward to a great year of leadership development and service!
