The 2021-2022 Blackstone Valley Youth Leadership Academy (BVYLA) class is comprised of 25 freshmen and sophomore students representing each of BVEF's 11 full member school districts. Our Youth Leadership Academy is officially underway after our Kick-Off Event Saturday, November 6th at Riverbend Farm in Uxbridge! Our young leaders got to know each other through plenty of games, such as “Autograph” and a rock-paper-scissors tournament, a paper airplane-making contest, and they put their knowledge of the Valley to the test to complete a Blackstone Valley crossword puzzle. Finally, the students created posters that established group norms for the program going forward. While they only spent three short hours together, students in the Blackstone Valley Leadership Academy are excited for their next class which will focus on what “Leadership” really means!"
The challenging six month curriculum of BVYLA seeks to develop the leadership skills of an annual cohort of diverse students. By meeting at different locations in and around the Blackstone Valley, students learn about both the rich history in each community as well as the skills necessary to become leaders in their schools, communities, and future workforce.
